About STEM
The staff at STEM is made up of working musicians with extensive recording backgrounds. Whether you are a beginner trying to finish your first song, or a seasoned veteran looking to tie a bow on your latest project, they have been there and can help.
Curtis Grippe
Curtis has been playing and recording music professionally for more than 20 years and has a wealth of experience on both sides of the glass.
As a member of Dead Hot Workshop, he recorded two CDs for Atlantic Records; River Otis, which was recorded at Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin (Garbage, Nirvana, the Jayhawks, Beck) and 1001 which was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Jim Scott (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dixie Chicks, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty).
Curtis still plays out live in the Phoenix area with Dead Hot Workshop and Ghetto Cowgirl and regionally with Portland based recording artist Stephen Ashbrook.
Thomas Laufenberg
Thomas is a veteran performer and spent his early career as the lead guitarist of Hollywood Records recording artists the Pistoleros before earning a degree at the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe.
When he isn’t performing or recording, Thomas spends his time teaching others to play guitar and bass at his school Hammeron Music. Thomas has also worked on numerous motion picture projects and is available for engineering voice-over sessions and scoring for films. Thomas plays bass in Dead Hot Workshop and Stephen Ashbrook and guitar in Ghetto Cowgirl and the Persuaders.
Jamie Woolford
Jamie is one of the valley’s most popular engineer/producers both here and throughout the country. He is also the lead singer and guitarist of the band, Let Go.
He’s always on the move so check him out on his Web site, HERE.
Jim Kaufman
We now have Jim Kaufman – of Opiate For The Masses fame – recording exclusively at STEM.
Stay tuned for more information on Jim and his plans at the studio.
For now, you can hit Jim’s Website, American Voodoo Records and check out his recent work.
